What You Will Receive
This is for a mature, well-established Venus Fly Trap growing in a 7cm pot with multiple growth points. All plants are grown outdoors in Melbourne without artificial heating, ensuring they are tough and acclimated to local conditions. Your plant will be shipped to you potted.
Seasonal Notice (Late April to October): During this period, your plant will be entering or in winter dormancy. The leaves and traps will be very small, and the plant will appear to shrink. This is completely normal and necessary! The plant will be supplied potted with its mature corm (the underground bulb) ready to wake up. You can choose to repot it in late winter/early spring or leave it untouched until the growing season begins.
About Your Venus Fly Trap: Description and Growing Tips
The Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea muscipula) is one of nature's true wonders! These fascinating, insect-eating plants are surprisingly easy to grow and thrive when given the right care.
Growing Tips
Sun: They prefer a sunny position and do well both indoors on a bright windowsill or outdoors.
Climate: They thrive in colder climates because they require a period of cold nights and shorter days in winter to enter dormancy, rest, and prepare for vigorous spring growth.
The Seasonal Life Cycle
Your plant's appearance will change drastically throughout the year:
| Season | Leaf Appearance | Growth Rate | Note |
| Spring | Rapid, mostly prostrate (flat to the ground), bright green leaves. | Rapid | New growth starts after dormancy. |
| Summer | Leaves grow more upright, with traps often turning an attractive pink-red colour. | Vigorous | The peak growing season. |
| Autumn | Growth becomes prostrate again, and all leaves may turn a beautiful red. | Slowing | Preparing for winter. |
| Winter (Dormancy) | Fewer, much smaller leaves that are prostrate (or sometimes no leaves at all). | Slowing/Minimal | The essential resting period. |
