These tomato seeds grow a large, very meaty flavoursome fruit (up to 400g each). The Tomato (Beefsteak) Mortgage Lifter Heirloom variety was named by a 1930's farmer whose bumper crop of this variety enabled him to save his farm from repossession.  Who would have thought tomato seeds or any vegetable seeds could bring about such a great outcome.  Fabulous all-round tomato, developed from Italian, German and English 'beefsteak' varieties.
 
Germination:
 
Sow seeds 5mm deep in pots or trays filled with seed-raising mix.  Tomato seeds grow better in warmer temperatures, so maintain a temperature in their growing environment of at least 18°C for best results. 
Once plants reach about 5cm high, transplant them into individual pots, a greenhouse, grow bags, large containers, or garden beds.  It’s best to stake the tomatoes early while still young to ensure they have straight and sturdy stems, as there can be high yields of up to 16kg per plant.  If sowing directly outdoors, wait until the soil has warmed in spring.
