Cultivating Eucalyptus: Your Guide to Growing from Seed
Growing a eucalyptus tree from seed is an accessible and rewarding project for any gardener. Known for their ease of germination, eucalyptus seeds typically don't require pre-treatment like soaking, making the process relatively simple.
To begin, sow the fine, dust-like seeds directly onto the surface of a light, well-draining seed-raising mix. A light covering of sand is helpful to anchor the seeds and maintain moisture. The most critical factor is consistent moisture; keep the soil damp but avoid waterlogging it to prevent rot.
Maintain a soil temperature between 18-21°C (64-70°F). You'll need to be patient, as germination can take a few weeks. Once the seedlings have their first true leaves and are sturdy enough, you can transplant them into individual pots. Provide them with ample sunlight and gradually introduce them to outdoor conditions before planting them in their final location.
