Smoked Vermiculite 10 grams
 
Smoked vermiculite is a specialized seed-raising medium that offers unique benefits for germinating a wide range of seeds, particularly those that naturally germinate after bushfire events. This vermiculite has been treated with smoke water or smoke extract, which contains germination-promoting compounds. When incorporated into your seed-raising mix or used as a top dressing, it can signal to certain seeds that conditions are ideal for sprouting, often improving germination rates and uniformity.

 
To use smoked vermiculite effectively, you can either mix it directly into your preferred seed-raising medium at a ratio of approximately 1 part smoked vermiculite to 5-10 parts seed-raising mix. Alternatively, you can sow your seeds on your standard seed-raising mix, lightly sprinkle the smoked vermiculite over the top of the sown seeds, and then water it in gently. Ensure the vermiculite is kept moist but not waterlogged throughout the germination period. This method is particularly beneficial for native species whose germination is stimulated by smoke.
