🛠 Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare the Substrate Add your moistened substrate to the tank. Create your desired slopes or hills. Ensure the surface is damp but not flooded with standing water.
Sow the Seeds Sprinkle the seeds evenly across the surface. Do not bury them. For a dense carpet, aim for a consistent layer without large gaps.
Mist Thoroughly Use your spray bottle to gently mist the seeds. This helps them "stick" to the soil and triggers the germination process.
The "Greenhouse" Effect Cover the top of the aquarium tightly with plastic wrap to trap 100% humidity. Leave a tiny gap at one corner for slight air exchange.
Light & Temperature Provide 10–12 hours of light per day. Keep the tank in a warm room (around 20°C to 26°C). Mist the seeds 1–2 times daily to keep the soil surface moist.
Flooding the Tank Once the seeds have sprouted and formed a visible green carpet (usually 7–14 days), you can slowly fill the tank with water.
Tip: Pour the water over a bowl or a piece of bubble wrap to avoid uprooting the delicate new sprouts.
Maintenance & Expectations
Trimming: These plants grow quickly! Regular trimming will help maintain the "carpet" look and prevent the bottom layers from rotting due to lack of light.
CO2 & Fertilizer: While not strictly required for germination, adding liquid fertilizers or CO2 will help sustain the plants long-term.
Transition: It is normal to see some "melt" or color change once the tank is flooded as the plants adapt to life underwater.
