These seeds require a period of stratification to break dormancy and encourage germination. To achieve this, mix the seeds with an equal volume of moist, sterile sand or vermiculite. Place the mixture in a sealed plastic bag and refrigerate for a period of 30 to 90 days at a temperature between 1−5∘C (34−41∘F). Check periodically to ensure the mixture remains moist, but not wet, to prevent mould. After this cold stratification period, sow the seeds in a well-draining seed-raising mix in trays or pots. Lightly cover the seeds with a thin layer of the mix.
 
 
Keep the soil consistently moist and place the trays in a warm location, ideally around 20−25∘C (68−77∘F). Germination can be erratic and may take several weeks or even months. Once seedlings emerge, ensure they receive good light. When they are large enough to handle, carefully transplant them into individual pots. Protect young trees from harsh sun and strong winds. Plant in a sunny to partially shaded location with rich, moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Regular watering is crucial during the establishment phase, especially during dry periods, to support vigorous growth.
