Cos lettuce - a tasty, succulent lettuce with an elongated head and dark green, long, narrow, crisp leaves - is believed to be the oldest cultivated lettuce.
Cos lettuce has a crispy, crunchy texture and a slightly sweet, tangy flavour. The interior leaves which are paler in colour have the most delicate flavour.
