Japanese Red Leaf Maple Seeds
HOW TO GROW JAPANESE MAPLES:
Step 1Place the seeds into a container and pour pre-boiled water that is cooled enough to touch over them and leave for 24 hours. Drain the water and put the seeds into a plastic zip-lock bag along with a mixture of moist garden soil. Seal the bag, date it, and put the bag into the refrigerator.
Step 2
After 3 months, plant the seeds into small pots of well-draining soil and cover with roughly 1cm of soil. Water thoroughly, allowing the soil to dry completely before watering again. Keep in a warm, sunny location. Germination should take around 4 weeks.
Step 3
Once sprouted, move pot to part sunny position. Gradually, increase sun as seedling grows. Use the small/medium pot until after first winter.
Step 4
Transplant to final position after first winter. Once established, will manage in winter if well mulched. Japanese Maples takes between 5-7 years to fully mature.
