Snowpea Oregon Seeds Organic
"Oregon Sugar Pod" Snowpeas are a fantastic organic variety, producing an abundance of sweet, crisp, flat pods that are delicious eaten whole – shell and all! These tender, stringless peas are perfect for stir-fries, salads, or simply snacking straight from the vine. As a vigorous climbing variety, they offer a bountiful harvest over an extended period, providing a healthy and continuous supply of fresh, homegrown goodness for your kitchen.
To prepare your organic "Oregon Sugar Pod" Snowpea seeds for planting, no specific pre-treatment like scarification or cold stratification is typically required. Pea seeds generally germinate well without these steps. However, a short soak in lukewarm water for 4-6 hours prior to planting can sometimes help to speed up germination by softening the seed coat, though this is optional. Avoid soaking for too long as it can lead to rot.
Sow the seeds directly into well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny to partially shaded location. Snowpeas are a cool-season crop and can be planted in late autumn for a winter harvest or in late winter/early spring for a spring harvest.
Plant seeds about 2.5-5cm deep and 5-10cm apart, with rows spaced about 60-90cm apart. As a climbing variety, these peas will require support like a trellis, netting, or stakes for their vines to cling to.
Maintain consistent moisture, especially during flowering and pod development, and ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
You can enjoy harvesting these sweet pods regularly as they mature.
