The Anigozanthus flavidus is native to Western Australia where the weather is warm all year round.
Kangaroo Paw is a perennial herb that grows underground rhizomes that make it resistant to fire and drought ... once the conditions improve it will resprout.
Growing Kangaroo Paws in your garden will attract many nectar-loving birds including honeyeaters and wattle birds. The plants have long sturdy stems which support the weight of the birds while they cling to them and feed from the flowers.
