Tallowwood Tree Seeds ~ Eucalyptus Tree Seeds ~ Aussie Native Plant Tree Seed
Tallowwood (Eucalyptus microcorys) is a magnificent native tree celebrated for its strong, durable timber and impressive stature. It boasts attractive fibrous bark, often a yellowish-brown to orange-brown, and produces clusters of creamy white flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators. This tree is a fantastic choice for larger gardens, acreage, or as a feature tree in parks due to its stately presence and environmental benefits.
To prepare Tallowwood seeds for planting, no special pre-treatment like cold stratification is typically required. These seeds generally germinate well without it. However, ensuring good seed-to-soil contact can improve germination rates. You can lightly rub the seeds with fine sandpaper or gently nick the seed coat, though this is often not essential for Eucalyptus microcorys.
Sow the seeds in a well-draining seed-raising mix in a sunny position. Lightly cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil or sand – no more than 3mm deep – as light can aid in their germination. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination usually occurs within 2-4 weeks, but can sometimes be sporadic. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them carefully into individual pots, and gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions before planting them in their final position. Ensure they have adequate space to grow, as these trees can reach considerable size.
