Pride Of Barbados Seeds . 

 

HOW TO GROW PRIDE OF BARBADOS :
 

Step 1
Warning: We advise to use gloves when touching Pride of Barbados seeds as they are considered poisonous. Soak in hot but not boiling water and leave for 24 hours. Repeat the process.

Step 2
After 48 hours of soaking, sow directly into ground or pots of soil with good drainage. Leave in a warm location as they require temperatures around 23-25°C (75-80°F).Leave moist in bright sunny position. Don’t allow the soil to dry out. Seeds should germinate 2-4 weeks.

Step 3
Space seedlings roughly two feet apart. Don’t overwater during transplanting.

Step 4
Final position should be full sun. Pride of Barbados takes roughly 6-12 months to flower.

Width: up to 1m (3 feet)

 

Pride of Barbados is native to tropical and sub-tropical regions the Americas.

This particular species is the National Flower of Barbados.

Other names for Pride of Barbados include Poinciana, Peacock Flower, Mexican Bird of Paradise and Flamboyant-de-jardin.

The Pride of Barbados is used to attract hummingbirds and has a range medicinal uses but the seeds are poisonous to humans.
