They are grown for their beautiful flowers and are highly attractive to beneficial insects in the garden. They also do a job under the soil in repelling some nasty insects. Easy to grow from seed during the warmer months, Marigolds will be flowering within 50-60 days.
Height: up to 50cm
Width: up to 30cm
Many gardeners plant Marigolds along with their vegetables in order to keep certain pests away.
Some chicken farmers have been known to put Marigolds into the feed to make the egg yolks a darker yellow.
Marigolds were first discovered by the Portuguese in Central America in the 16th century.
Marigolds are great companion plants for tomatoes and potatoes. The roots of Marigolds help by exuding a chemical that repels nasty eelworms in the soil.
