Cultivating Climbing Roses from Seed: A Guide for Rose Gardening
Growing climbing roses from seed is an exercise in patience, offering the unique chance to nurture a plant from its very beginning. Unlike propagating from cuttings, this method can take several years to produce flowers, and the resulting rose may surprise you with its own unique characteristics due to cross-pollination.
The most crucial step is stratification, which simulates the cold, moist period roses need to break dormancy. To do this, plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep in a container filled with moist seed-starting mix. Seal the container in a plastic bag and place it in your refrigerator for 10-12 weeks.
Once stratification is complete, move the container to a warm spot with a soil temperature of 16-21°C (60-70°F) to encourage germination. Be patient, as sprouting can be slow and sporadic. When the seedlings develop their first "true leaves," carefully transplant them into individual pots. Provide them with ample sunlight, and remember that it may be a few years before you see the first beautiful blooms on your new climbing rose.

A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae, or the flower it bears.
There are over three hundred species and thousands of cultivars.
They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles.
Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwestern Africa.
Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant. Roses have acquired cultural significance in many societies.
Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach seven meters in height. Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses.
