Fast-growing climber with fine foliage, pinnate leaves.
 
This is a most unusual cultivated variety with semi-double flowers of a beautiful blue colour.  Useful for growing on a trellis.
 
HOW TO GROW BUTTERFLY PEAS:
 
Step 1
Rub seeds gently on some light sandpaper or concrete gently to allow water to penetrate the seed coat and then soak seeds in room temperature water overnight.
 
Step 2
Sow into pots filled with a well draining soil about 3-4mm deep.  As this plant is a climber, providing some trellis or similar to climb should be a consideration unless using as a ground cover.  Can plant straight into the garden in Spring or Autumn in a warm full sun location; allow 3-4 inch spacing between plants.  Will tolerate some shade.  Keep moist, not wet during the entire germination process.  Seeds will germinate in ideal conditions in 14-21 days.  Ideal temperature for germination is 18-22°C.
 
Step 3
If in pots; transplant once necessary into the garden.  Pinching off regularly will encourage bushiness.  Can grow as an annual in colder climates.  This plant is fast growing and can flower as early as 4-6 weeks.  Drought tolerant once established.
