The globe artichoke is a variety of a species of thistle cultivated as a food.  The edible portion of the plant consists of the flower buds before the flowers come into bloom.

Germination Instructions

Artichoke seeds are relatively large and easy to handle, but they can be stubborn if the soil is too cold.

  • Pre-soak (Optional): Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours before planting to soften the tough outer shell and speed up the process.

  • Depth: Sow seeds 10mm deep.

  • Method: Use individual deep punnets or "root trainer" pots.  Artichokes have a sensitive taproot; the less you disturb it during transplanting, the better.

  • Temperature: They need a soil temperature of 21°C – 26°C to germinate.  If you’re starting in late winter in a cool climate, a heat mat is highly recommended.

  • Timeframe: Expect sprouts in 10–21 days.

25 seeds in each pack.
