American Sweetgum Tree Seeds . 
 
HOW TO GROW SWEETGUMS :

Step 1
Place the seeds into a container and pour boiling water over them and leave for 24 hours. Drain the water and put the seeds into a plastic zip-lock bag along with a mixture of moist garden soil Seal the bag, date it, and put the bag into the refrigerator.
Step 2
After 3 months, plant the seeds into small pots Of well-drained topsoil and cover with roughly 1cm of soil. Water thoroughly, but allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. Keep in a warm, sunny location. Germination should take around 4 weeks.
Step 3
Once sprouted, move pot to part sunny position. Gradually, increase sun as seedling grows. Use the small/medium pot until after first winter.
Step 4
Transplant to final position after first winter. Once established, will manage in winter if well mulched. Liquidambar takes between 3-5 years to mature.

Sweetgums have a lifespan of up to 400 years.
Its seeds are eaten by chipmunks, a variety of songbirds and wild turkey.
Sweetgums produce a resin, which has been used in medicine and in chewing gum.
