The African Horned Melon or Kiwano fruit is a vigorous growing edible plant that is native to the sub-Saharan desert in Africa. It's oval shaped yellow fruits are covered in small horns and the flesh inside described as a mix between a banana and a passionfruit. Extremely drought tolerant and fairly easy to grow, the Kiwano can start producing fruit in as little as four months.
 
African Horned Melons are native to the sub-Saharan desert in Africa.
It is also has common names such as  Kiwano, Spiked Melon and Jelly Melon.
During the dry season in the Kalahari Desert, Kiwano is one of the few sources of water.
